BARDSEY (6) v (3) BOROUGHBRIDGE

Bardsey  :- Cullen,Larner,Clayton,Dalby,Rawnsley,Franklin(T),Dalby(Ash),Winterburn,Yanac,Kaye,Clark

Subs - Yanac,Goldie,Fisk,Hardwick

After doubts toward the end of the week of the game being played due to the amount of rain, the weekend saw the pitches in excellent condition and it was a credit to the Sports club that all games were played.

Bardsey were looking to continue to build on the positives from the last few weeks but the management and players realised that this would be our sternest task of the season so far and we would know at the end of the 90 minutes just how far we had progressed (or not)  Things did not bode well when Boro with one of their few attacks in the first 20 minutes took the lead against the run of play.Up till then it was all Bardsey who were confidently pushing the ball around and asking serious questions of the vastly more experienced Boroughbridge team. As has been symptomatic, our bad luck and a  switch off in concentration,a ball allowed to bounce around the area was stabbed home by a Boro forward and at 2-0 down it seemed that we were going to have a long hard day. To compound things further Ben CLARK had to be substituted due to a groin strain and was replaced by the vastly vastly experienced YANAC senior. The Bardsey keeper CULLEN also had to come off at half time due to a damaged finger and it was hard to view things in an optimistic light.

We had struggled for a twenty minute period but after half time things improved with our passing game asking all the questions and our midfield taking control of the game. Reward soon came with FRANKLIN receiving a great ball down the left side of the box and placing the ball low across the goalkeeper into the far corner. Hope suddenly became belief and within minutes new signing Elliot KAYE,making a very impressive debut for the club, brought things level with a fine opportunistic goal. He then grabbed two more for Bardsey to race into a two goal lead. Boroughbridge did not take the loss of these goals lying down and surged back to make it 4-3 with a dodgy penalty before Josh YANAC made up for his previous days mugging attempt by adding a fifth to settle the crowds nerves. The sixth goal (and his own fourth), courtesy of KAYE really rounded off a fine performance by the whole BARDSEY team. As this reporter stated last week here it would only be a matter of time before we suprised one of the big boys. This win was achieved with several pool players missing and injured and we are now starting to get good strength in depth. We now need to progress up the league and next week against Ripon will be a hard task but one that we are now capable of winning. Our targets are rising every week but the management are convinced that a top half finish is achievable and will be a great stepping stone towards next seasons campaign in which greater things will be expected!!! Man of the match could have been given to any one of the team with justification but the choice has to be :---------------------------------------------------------------------------

-MOM Elliot KAYE - Four goals against Broughbridge says it all.

Bardsey 4 v 6 Scholes

After having played only one game in around eight weeks and that being

a 7-2 thumping by Ripon, the team were looking forward to getting back into some kind of routine and a full squad was assembled on Friday but as usual by Sunday the goalkeeper and full-back were ruled out  due to 'VALENTINES DAY' commitments and illness . The manager was hoping another massacre wasn't on the cards!

A hasty reorganisation on Sunday morning saw Ash Dalby, normally our midfield maestro, volunteer to take the gloves. Right from the start a bigger and more committed Scholes team put the ball on the defence and poor defending and misunderstandings helped Scholes  race to a 3-0 lead within 15 minutes. As usual it was Bardsey that were playing the best football but continuing to leak goals. Elliot Kaye working tirelessly as usual, seemed almost to be on his own up front but his sheer persistance led to a Bardsey goal before half time which was scant reward for the teams first half efforts.

The introduction of Yanac senior in the second half immediately changed the whole pattern of the game with him sitting just in front of the back four and allowing  the younger players to get forward. Bardsey took control of the game and Scholes seemed to be tiring badly. The introduction of Franklin for the injured Winterburn gave us new impetus and it seemed only a matter of time before there was another goal. Unfortunately it came from Scholes. A scrambled goal from Franklin seemed to rattle the Scholes team . Kaye grabbed another from close range to make it 4-3 and we were buzzing but almost immediatey another ball over the top led to Scholes re-establishing their two goal lead.

At 4-3 it had seemed only a matter of when, not if we scored again but disastrously Scholes went down the other end and scored two more soft goals. The highlight of the game came late on when  Yanac (junior) beat two defenders and stepped inside to unleash a tremendous shot which the goalkeeper only saw as it went past him,but by then the game was up and it was only left for the referee to blow the whistle and us to reflect on what might have been.

The problems in defence were excusible on the day as playing wihout a recognised goalkeeper led to all sorts of misunderstandings but on the bright side we scored four goals and with new signings on the horizon we continue to be positive. Another sad note was the departure of Lee Ramsey to pastures new. His inestimable contribution in goals to the team ( 2 In the last two games) will be sorely missed. We hope he will return in the twilight of his career.

MOM Ash Dalby for his team spirit

Sal Yanac for his competitive spirit and steadying influence.

Barkston Ash Sunday Cup

Bardsey (3) v (2) Scholes

After the previous weeks dropping of two points in the last minute against Coach and Horses and in the course of the game hitting the bar three times,Bardsey confidence going into this game was quietly confident without being blase as Scoles, coming from the premier division promised to be  much tougher proposition.

Elliot Kaye(on his way to Durham ) and Seb Brownrigg up front were tipped to give the opposition all sorts of problems but the first Bardsey goal came from a cheeky flick over the goalkeeper by Tom franklin. After a suastained bout of Bardsey pressure and good interpassing with James wainmann  Jonny Lawrence was upended in the box for a clear penalty which Kaye duly despatched to give Bardsey a 2-0 lead.

Scholes were never likely to lie down to lower division opposition and gradually came into the game but the Bardsey back four of Clayton,Goldie,Rawnsley and M.O.T.M Reynolds kept all their attempts at long distance and with Milner handling and kicking everything superbly the second half was looking bright.

Scholes opened up the second half with renewed vigour and several good saves from Milner and two goal line clearances from Goldie seemed to be the writing on the wall for the Scholes team, before Ripton fresh from his saturday night/Sunday morning  training camp in Leeds city centre brought down an opposition player in the box and the referee awarded a clear penalty which although Miner did well to get his hands to it,trickled agonisingly over the line to give Scholes a life-line. A second and equalising goal quickly followed, but whereas last year it would have been a question of how many they would score,it seemed to wake Bardsey up and we came increasingly back into the game. A magnificent save from the keeper from a Goldie volley and a scrambled goal line clearance from Wainmann seemed to indicate a stalemate until Bardsey were awarded a free kick 40 yards out.  A vicious inswinging cross from Goldie and a superbly placed header from Kaye sent us on our way with few more problems to a great 3-2 victory and the next round of the cup.
