Boroughbridge 6 v 1 Bardsey

We travelled more in hope than anticipation on Sunday to Boroughbridge where gaining points is difficult at the best of times but with seven squad members missing due to the 'Leeds Festival' it was always going to be a near impossible task.

Five minutes before kick-off we had only been able to muster 10 players and luckily Paul Franklin stepped into the breach. We started brightly but fell behind to a poor goal which was more down to players not having played together before than good play on the oppositions part. We actually equalised with a 'thunderbolt from Clayton which the Boroughbridge defence could only slightly deflect into the top of the net. A fifteen man squad who were last years league champions aginst a ten man makeshift squad was always going to one sided and Boroughbridge continued to press forward and goals came at regular intervals. The final result was to be fair and indeed could have been more, but for the tremendous performance of Curt Larner in the goal. His performance was the only real high point of the day. The team, despite the result, continued to try and play football in the correct way and we could have scored a couple more but it would not really have changed the course of the game. Next week against Sherwood(away) we should have several of the squad returning and I am sure a better display will be commensurate with their return.
